It's been a few years (and a couple babies) since I've blogged and I've missed it. I was scrolling through a beautiful prayer community I follow on Instagram (@pink.incense) when these words on their post leapt out at me, "You have my YES" and I felt God speak it to my heart. It literally stopped me in my tracks and I almost dropped my phone. "You have my YES. To all the dreams in your heart right now...You have my YES. Because I know you. I know your dreams and I put them there and my answer is YES." And I whispered it right there in my kitchen, "Lord, you love to say yes." I had been hearing "No...not yet." for so long I forgot that My God loves to say YES.
He is leading me through these seasons of my life and sometimes the dream feels far and impossible and the "no" that I hear is often only a "wait for the Yes". And so the waiting God has us in at times is like the game of surprise we play with our children. "Can I come out yet?", they ask, trying to peek around the corner. "No, not yet", we say as we excitedly set the scene, laying out the gifts we prepared for them, placing the final touches on decorations to make the surprise all the sweeter. It's like that for our Father God. He's preparing the landscape, setting the scene. Think of the Garden of Eden. God creates the animals, a dizzying cacophony of color and sound, and then he designs breathtaking plants and flowers and spectacular sunsets. And, finally, he creates Adam and gives him a grand tour of the Garden he has made for him.
"...I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of the entire earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; and to all the animals on the earth and to every bird of the air and to everything that moves on the ground--to everything in which there is the breath of life-- I have given every green plant for food"; and it was so [because He commanded it]. God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good and He validated it completely." Genesis 1:29 Amplified Bible
Even before God created the first man and woman, He was preparing a beautiful and abundant life-sustaining environment for them. They didn't have to ask for food or even know a world without provision in those first days in the Garden--it was ready for them as soon as they stepped onto the scene. Later, sin would mar the perfect gift God had given, but God's heart towards us remains the same. That was how God worked out of love then, and that is how God continues to work out of love for us now.
God is busy working "behind the scenes" so those dreams He placed in our hearts have fertile ground to grow in. Just wait. Just hold on. His "no, not yet, child" can barely contain the excitement He has for the moment He gets to say "yes, now is the time!"
